Question 1

What is the maximum transformer rating URJA manufactures?

Accepted Answer

URJA designs and manufactures transformers up to 10 MVA in the 33 kV voltage class. Units in this range have been type tested for dynamic short-circuit withstand at CPRI and ERDA.

Question 2

Which standards do URJA transformers comply with?

Accepted Answer

Transformers are designed, manufactured and tested as per IS, IEC and ANSI standards, so the same design can be specified for Indian, Middle Eastern, African and Asian projects.

Question 3

Does URJA export transformers outside India?

Accepted Answer

Yes. URJA supplies transformers to buyers in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and Tanzania, and has delivered cast resin dry type transformers for a project in Indonesia.

Question 4

How should I choose between cast resin and VPI dry type transformers?

Accepted Answer

Cast resin transformers fully encapsulate the windings in epoxy, which blocks moisture and suits humid, indoor or outdoor and fire-sensitive locations. VPI transformers use vacuum pressure impregnated windings and are well suited to clean, indoor industrial environments.

Question 5

What information is needed for a transformer technical offer?

Accepted Answer

Share the kVA/MVA rating, primary and secondary voltages, vector group, frequency, cooling type, installation (indoor or outdoor), applicable standard, tap-changer requirement, site altitude and ambient temperature, and any special load such as rectifiers or furnaces.
